Career Development through ACDIS

ACDIS helps to enhance not only students’ knowledge about global problems, but also their ability to analyze foreign and domestic policy attempts to address those problems. In turn, University of Illinois graduates who have participated in ACDIS develop skills that enable them to help shape policy in very concrete ways. Alumni of the ACDIS program have gone on to positions in governmental (including the U.S. State Department) and non-governmental organizations; education (with former students now holding faculty appointments at other universities); and private business and non-profit sectors.

Although ACDIS does not currently offer formal career counseling or placement services, the program is committed to assisting students in finding opportunities for career development while they are at the University of Illinois. ACDIS has demonstrated this commitment through our development of a program that offers undergraduate scholarships for University of Illinois students to pursue internships and study abroad. We have also developed web listings that provide internship information to students interested in careers related to international and security studies. General Career Services

Students and alumni from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign can take advantage of various career services on campus. The Career Center is an excellent starting point for career exploration, and will be able to direct individual students to sources of information that match their specific needs and interests. The Career Services Council website has many resources, including links to departmental or field-specific career counseling offices (students with interests that overlap with those of ACDIS might consult, to name a few examples, Biological Sciences Career Planning and Placement, the Biotechnology Center Placement Office, Chemical Science Placement and Student Services, or Engineering Career Services).
